The cause of the explosions in Krasnodar on Friday night was the downing of two drones, Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed.

“There is damage to buildings, but vital infrastructure was not damaged. And importantly, there were no casualties,” he said.

On the night of May 26, social media users in Krasnodar reported hearing sounds of explosions. Later, the operational headquarters of the FSB in the Krasnodar Territory confirmed that in the center of Krasnodar, in the area of Morskaya Street, there was a “pop”.

Operational headquarters said there were no casualties as a result of the “pop” (a euphemism, a replacement for the word “explosion” in the language of official messages in Russia). The FSB did not report anything about the nature of the “cotton”.

Krasnodar Mayor Yevgeny Naumov wrote on his VKontakte page that an office building and a residential building were damaged as a result of the incident.

“I am on Morskaya Street. An office building and a residential building were damaged. According to initial reports, there were no casualties. All emergency services are working at the site. The cause of the incident is being established,” the mayor said.

Later he clarified that in a five-storey building at 77/1 Garazhnaya Street, “the windows were partially broken” and the roof was damaged in a nearby private house.

Local residents who reported the blast on social media almost immediately suggested it could be an air defense fire on a drone.

The Krasnodar 93.ru portal, citing eyewitness accounts, writes that they heard the characteristic sounds of drones and explosions.

According to the portal’s editors, “a drone flying in the sky is clearly visible in the footage, which was handed over to publication by an eyewitness.”

The Telegram Baza channel also posted videos filmed by local residents, which captured the moment of the explosion and the flight of the alleged drone. According to the Telegram channel, the explosion damaged the building of the mobile operator MTS.

The Telegram Shot channel suggested that the target of the alleged drone could be a cellphone tower on Morskaya Street. The Telegram channel also posted images that allegedly show the wreckage of a drone that attacked a target in Krasnodar.

Krasnodar is about 330 km from the front line in Ukraine.

Russian territory — and not just the border regions — has been regularly attacked by drones in recent months. Drones exploded in Tula, Kaluga, Ryazan, Saratov and other regions.

In early May, a fire broke out at the Ilsky oil refinery in the Krasnodar Territory after being hit by a drone.

On May 3, the Kremlin announced drone attacks on Putin’s residence in the Kremlin. According to Russian authorities, two drones were used for the attack, but they were allegedly disabled by the army and special services.

Moscow accuses Ukraine of attacks on Russian territory. In kyiv, in response, they say they fight Russian aggression only on their own territory.
