The United Nations thanked Turkey on Saturday for its diplomatic and logistical support in extending an agreement on grain exports through the Black Sea.
This is clear from the press release published by the representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric, which continued after the extension of the international agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.
“The initiative signed in Istanbul on July 22, 2022 has been expanded as it aims to ensure the safety of exports of grain, food products and fertilizers such as ammonia from Ukrainian ports,” Duzharic said.
He noted that the agreement helped reduce global food prices and stabilize markets by transporting 25 million tons of grain and food to 45 countries in the first two phases.
On July 22, 2022, under the auspices of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations signed the “Document on the Initiative for the Safe Shipment of Grain and Food Products from Ukrainian Ports”.
The agreement provides for grain exports that are blocked in Ukrainian Black Sea ports (Eastern Europe) to overcome world food shortages.
The international agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain ends today, Saturday. It was earlier extended for 120 days from November 19, 2022.
