6.8 magnitude earthquake strikes Ecuador and other Latin American countries; see the movie



On social media, residents of Cuenca have recorded moments of despair in the face of the tremors.

This Saturday (18th), an earthquake hit countries such as Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Chile and Peru. In Ecuador, so far, 13 people have died. The earthquake in Peru had a lower intensity (about 4.5), and in Mexico, 3.3.

“We are carrying out an assessment of the impacts caused by the earthquake. The institutions immediately took action and the emergency teams are mobilizing to offer all the support to the people affected”, said the president of Ecuador, William Lasso, on your Twitter profile. He asked the population to calm down and then went to the hospital where the wounded are treated.


According to CNN Brasil, there is structural damage to buildings in Cuenca, the third largest city in the country. The historic city is on the United Nations World Heritage List. According to the US National Weather Service, there is no tsunami warning.
