On Friday, March 17, the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) amended the contract with the Latvian Paralympic Committee, removing possible obstacles to obtaining public funding for representatives of certain sports.
The amendments provide for the receipt of financial support in situations that may arise with the participation of representatives of certain sports in competitions with athletes from Russia and Belarus.
According to the president of the Latvian Paralympic Committee Daiga Dadzite, such circumstances could arise in the future in wheelchair tennis and para-cycling, because the international federations of these sports allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions. in a neutral status.
As reported, the MES changed its mind this week and will continue to fully fund Latvian Olympic team athletes Alena Ostapenko, Tom Skuinsha and Krist Neilands, who competed alongside athletes from Russia and Belarus.
