Tennis player gets excited about Billie Jean King Cup call-up
Laura Pigossi, ranked 104 and training at the AD In Academy, in Barcelona, Spain, makes her debut this Sunday, starting at 1:30pm, in the WTA 1000 Qualifiers in Miami, USA, a hard court event with an award of US$ 8.8 million.
Laura faces the Slovak Kristina Kucova, in 332nd place, in the second match on court 2: “The conditions here are slower than in Indian Wells and damp. I prepared well. We give it our all”, underlined Pigossi, who counts the sponsorships of ENGIE, ASICS and Banco BRB.
The São Paulo native has been called up to Brazil’s Billie Jean King Cup squad to face Germany in Stuttgart, Germany, on clay, on April 14 and 15.
The team will also seek a place in the Finals of the event with Bia Maia, Luisa Stefani, Carol Meligeni and Ingrid Martins and will be led by Roberta Burzagli.
“I’m very happy with the call-up and can once again defend Brazil and wear the shirt. Everyone knows I’m passionate about this type of competition, I turn into a court,” said Pigossi.
“Germany are a tough team, but we know all the girls, we’ve trained with all of them. We have to have the attitude of wanting more of them. I know they play at home, but they have that extra pressure.” I’m sure all those of our team will give their all. This is our moment. We are in our best phase, all of us.”
