In the heart of the wild demonstration area in the Place d’Italie, south of Paris, several fires are burning, according to an Anadolu correspondent on the ground Saturday evening.
After the ban on demonstrations in the Place de la Concorde, the police reported that no less than 4,000 people gathered in the Place d’Italie to mark their opposition to the use of 49.3 to carry out the pension reform.
The march, originally made up of trade unionists, has been joined by dozens of radicals and Black Bloc elements, who now engage in violence, including the firing of fireworks by gendarmes.
Barricades and trash cans have been set on fire and police have launched initial charges to arrest those responsible for the damage.
The situation is of particular concern to the authorities after the unrest near Concorde Square on Thursday evening, which was followed by violent clashes between police and demonstrators on Friday evening.
